LG Telecom recently donated 2,000 units of “Book Reader Mobile Phone” that are designed for visually impaired users for World Braille Day through the Hasang Rehabilitation Center.

The phones are LG Electronics Wine 3 mobile phones (LG-LH8600). They convert text and menu functions into voice and also include braille keypads. By pushing the “OK” button in the center of the phone, users can access 2,300 audio books, ranging from science to arts and the humanities. The service, made possible by LG’s digital library in Sangam, Seoul, is free.

LG Telecom and the Korea Communications Commission jointly held a “Braille Day” event at Namsan Park in Seoul. The event, organized by the Hasang Rehabilitation Center, had over 200 visually impaired participants plus Choi See-joong, chairman of the KCC, Jung Il-jae, chief executive officer of LG Telecom and Kwon In-hee, president of the Korea Blind Union.
